What job is right for me?

In a previous article I mentioned that your personality is an important factor in deciding which job is right for you. However, there is another part to the jigsaw that will give you a clearer insight as to whether you are going for the right jobs.

John Holland, a psychologist, put together a theory which implied that people of a similar character, interests and styles tended to favour certain job roles. He went on to describe six types of person:

    Realistic
    Conventional

    Social
    Enterprising
    Artistic
    Investigative

A brief listing of job roles relating to each of these types can be found at Wikipedia

Do you know which type of person you are? My guess is that you may make the wrong assumption and this may be the reason why you are dissatisfied with the types of job that you have been going after. Have a go at the Career Test on the BBC website to see if you are looking for the right jobs.
