Unemployment is costing you thousands

UK Government statistics show that around 55% of the 1.86 million unemployed have been out of work for up to 6 months. In real terms is means that, for every two people that sign on the dole, one will get a job within 26 weeks whilst the other is likely to spend more time searching for work.

A quote from another Government source:

“Median earnings of full-time male employees was £521 per week in April 2008; for women the median was £412.”

(Source: UK Government National Statistics)

This means that the national average salary is between £412 and £521 per week. For the sake of argument, let’s say the average salary is £450 per week for a moment. Let’s also be optimistic and assume the successful of the two job hunters a job offer in 5 months.

5 months (20 weeks) at £450 per week amounts to a staggering £9,000 you could have been getting if you had extra help!

Put it this way, if someone got hold of 900 crisp new tenners and flushed them down the loo you’d think they were completely nuts wouldn’t you. I would certainly agree. However, that’s just what you could be doing because that represents your lost earnings.

So it’s time to get the ball rolling and become a Job Hunter rather than just an average Job Seeker.
