Vision2Lean has vacancies for distance learning courses
If you are serious enough about job hunting you will be assessing your portfolio and seeing if you can add extra skills or qualifications to it. One way to do this is to enrol on a course at your local college. You will be surprised to find that some of the courses are discounted if you are unemployed. You may even find some free courses too.
It may well be that you're already employed, soon to be made redundant. You may not have the time to attend a course at your local college. If this is the case, perhaps you should consider enrolling on an online course. That way you can fit it in with your existing commitments.
Vision2Learn is a recommended provider that provides free on-line courses which lead to recognised qualifications. They currently offer the following courses:
- Edexcel Workskills (Level1)
- Edexcel Workskills (Level2)
- Equality and Diversity (Level 2)
- Essential IT Skills (Level 1)
- Essential IT Skills (Level 2)
- Life Skills (Level 2)
I'm not going to give any further details here but strongly recommend that you visit their website at:
www.vision2learn.net/channels/index.aspx
If they do not have the course you're interested in then I suggest you register with them so they can email you when they have new courses in. Alternatively, bookmark their site and visit them often.
If you know or hear of any other courses available, please do leave a comment for others to see.
Your transferable skills can land you an ideal job
Because of the current recession successful Job Hunters have soon realised that there isn’t such great demand for their normal line of work. Knowing this, they have literally sat down and brainstormed new uses for their skills. These skills are whats regarded as "Transferable Skills" (i.e. they can be used in many different job roles). Examples of transferable skills are:
- Teaches others
- Motivate others
- Managing finances
- Verbal communication
- Written communication
- Project management
- Supervisory
- Speaks a foreign language
This list is by no means exhaustive but gives you an idea of the sort of skills you may already have and that you take for granted. This is a common mistake made by many Job Seekers.
Obviously don’t overdo it but itemise the most important ones which are likely to get noticed. How do you do it? That’s the easy part. Have a look at the job advert and you should see the most important skills listed there. If the job advert is a bit sketchy, you can get a good idea of what they may be looking for by going to the Jobs 4 U website . Once there, browse for the job (or a similar one if yours is not listed) and make a note of the skills required from there. Be sure to put these on your CV if they are relevant to you.
