Investments from AXA, EA, Telefonica and others into Dublin create job opportunities
Insurance company AXA plans to create 200 new jobs in Dublin in the coming three years through the establishment of a global life-product distribution and servicing subsidiary. In this expansion investment, the company intends to create jobs at AXA Global Distributors in Dublin in marketing, finance, information technology, telephone sales, product development, customer services, policy and administration.
AXA Global Distributors’ joint managing director said that the investment decision to headquarter the company in Dublin was motivated by the success of its other operations in the Irish country, the ready availability of a skilled graduate workforce and access to the EU markets. AXA Global Distributors focuses on wholesale insurance and investment activities and hopes that its Dublin operations will offer distribution of its services for investment products, and give the company back-office services to product underwriting entities in the AXA Group, especially for AXA Life Europe. In 1999, AXA Group entered the Irish market and has ever since grown to about 1000 staff.
Welcoming the news of this new investment and the creation of jobs, Taoiseach Brian Cowen (Head of government) said that AXA’s decision to invest in Dublin reflected the country’s reputation as a prime location for innovative companies. He termed it as a positive endorsement from a global player that the country can offer the required skills, pro-business policies and a strong regulatory environment that enables companies like AXA to rapidly expand their international business through investments.
Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Innovation, Batt O’Keeffe said that the investment was approval that the country could outdo its competitors with regard to attracting and winning major investments. The new jobs, as he commented, are in high-value areas and would add impetus to the country’s economic recovery and at the same time show that the country can continue to win investments even when faced with tough competition from other countries.
This new investment that creates 200 jobs follows a number of announcements affecting the job markets in the recent weeks. However, the AXA announcement was not the only good news for job seekers in the country. Last week, Electronic Arts, an international computer games firm, announced its plans to open a European customer service operations centre in Galway that would create another 200 jobs. At the same time a telecommunications company, Telefonica, plans to create 100 jobs at its Dublin office and Webroot, a US internet security company. will create 50 jobs over the next two years.
Councils Collaborate to Launch New Jobs Portals
Councils in three English regions are collaborating to advertise jobs on the internet through new regional recruitment portals.
“In difficult economic times we are collaborating to make finding employment in the public sector as easy as possible. NorthEastJobs helps job seekers and keeps recruitment costs down”
Jobseekers in the South East, East Midlands and South West will soon be offered a one-stop shop on the web for council jobs in their area. The new web portals will allow job seekers to search and apply for a wide range of employment opportunities in councils, and in some cases fire and rescue services and other public sector employers.
Following the successful launch of NorthEastJobs.org in 2009, three more regions are developing linked recruitment portals as part of programme funded by Communities and Local Government and delivered by the North East Improvement and Efficiency Partnership.
Jennifer McNeill, Regional Director of South East Employers said:
“We are delighted to be hosting the first of these new regional portals. This provides an exciting opportunity for SEE to support our 74 councils in driving down costs in their advertising and recruitment processes whilst raising their individual profiles as employers. SouthEastJobs.org.uk aims to provide a user-friendly facility for job seekers to apply for jobs directly, or as a useful signposting service for them”
NorthEastJobs has already brought together 14 councils and fire and rescue services in the North East, offering a wide range of opportunities from Berwick to Redcar.
Helen Paterson, Strategic Director of Transformation and Chair of the National Programme Board said:
“In difficult economic times we are collaborating to make finding employment in the public sector as easy as possible. NorthEastJobs helps job seekers and keeps recruitment costs down”
The new portals are supported by a system supplied by Tribal.
Brendan Harris, Commercial Director for Tribal’s resourcing business said:
“Tribal invest a huge amount of time and effort in delivering tailored solutions for the public sector and are delighted to be supporting the local government regions to implement efficient and cost-effective recruitment systems. The collaborative working with a total place approach to the regions within the UK will also help to make finding and applying for jobs so much easier for candidates looking to work in council and public service roles – a real win-win for recruiter, applicant and the taxpayer.“
Southeastjobs.org.uk will be available to job seekers in July. Portals in the East Midlands and South West are expected to follow shortly afterwards. A further regional portal is being considered by local authorities in the North West.
