Are you claiming enough benefit?

According to recent reports, somewhere in the region of eight billion pounds a year is left unclaimed within the UK. Because of the lack of information or bureaucracy surrounding benefits for the less well-off people are not claiming their full entitlement.

I’ve even heard people grumble and say that they don’t want handouts and that they are proud of the fact that they have never claimed a penny from the Government and yet they are broke! Although they sound like extreme cases, it is surprising how many people pay their taxes and yet fail to enquire about any entitlement to refunds such as tax credits etc.

If you’re one of these people let me remind you that being too proud to claim what you are entitled to will not put food on your table. If you’re in work for example, you may be on a low income and paying too much tax! Believe me, you will not get a letter of appreciation from the Treasury for this gesture.

If you are a little bewildered, have a look at the following website:

Entitledto has a simple on-line calculator to help you work out how much you could claim.

  • Its quite simple really, you have car INSURANCE, you have an accident, you claim, you have house INSURANCE, your house burns down, you claim, you have National INSURANCE, you become unemployed, you claim. Far to many people think that National Insurance is just for the Health Service, well its not, it also covers JSA, Old Age Pension and a whole raft of other benefits, and yes Entitledto is an excellent website.
