Networking with blogs

As you may have realised, networking is one of the most important aspects of job hunting. Many jobs go unadvertised so it is important that you get the word out to your friends, colleagues and family members.  Make certain they all know that you are looking for work. One of the most under-used ways to get the word out is by setting up your own blog.

There are many ways to do this and probably the easiest is through wordpress.org” target=”_blank” title=”Wordpress.Org”>WordPress.Org or Blogger . All you need to do is register and you’re virtually up and running. If you are one of those savvy people who have their own domain name and webspace then you can set up your own wordpress blog and customise it the way you want.

If you would like some free wordpress themes for your blog then click on the "Free" tab at the top of this page where you have access to some free WordPress themes.

Anyway, getting back to the subject, you can set up a personal blog and mention your strengths, the sort of work you’re looking for etc. Make the blog a bit chatty and interesting though. You’ll be surprised at the sort of response you’ll get. To make sure your contacts read the blog, add a signature to the bottom of your emails with the blog’s URL (web address) in it. If you keep adding to your blog every day or so then you have more chance of people reading it.

Not only will your contacts be reading the blog but their contacts will also get to know about it through word of mouth. The more people that read the blog the more chance you’ll have of someone emailing you with dsetails of vacancies.

If you want some more job hunting tips and strategies then click on "The Book " tab at the top of this page.

So get blogging!

Watch out for the scams!

With the down turn in the economy, unscrupulous people are taking advantage of the situation by placing attractive adverts in newspapers, direct mail, websites and email by scamming people. They offer some great looking work from home ‘opportunities’ where you can do things like stuff envelopes, ‘guaranteed’ wins at competitions etc. The only problem is that they require you to part with some money up front.

Beware of any employment opportunity where you need to pay them money to get money. If you think about it it doesn’t really make any sense does it? If the opportunity is bona-fide then these people surely must be getting some commissions for recruiting you.

Only if they are complete scams would you be asked to pay money before seeing any results.

You might want to have a look at the following resources so you don’t get caught out:

However, not all work from home opportunities are scams – you just need to be vigilant.
